Green Certification

The Green Certification program is designed to recognize, assist, and promote units that are taking steps toward reducing their environmental footprint.

Green Certification

Certification Benefits

  • Certified units will be recognized at MSU’s Earth Week event on April 22, 2010.
  • Certified units can use the Green Certification seal on recruitment materials and other communications materials to show their commitment to environmental stewardship and participation in the culture of conservation.
  • Buildings in which all units earn Green Certification will receive a plaque recognizing the building as “Green Certified.”
  • Buildings in which all units earn Green Certification will have a special designation on environmental stewardship building reports.

Certification Categories

MSU units and on-campus students can earn Green Certification by completing online self-assessment forms available on the Office of Campus Sustainability Web site. To acknowledge the distinct functions within the university, certification forms were created for five categories: (click to download)

Units with multiple functions should complete the forms for all applicable categories.

Certification Process

  • Select the Green Certification form most applicable to your area. Most units will use the office certification form; however, if your unit has specialized subunits, select the all forms that apply.
  • Complete the selected form or forms online by checking “yes,” “no”,“N/A” (not applicable), or "Plan to" for each characteristic on the form. Check “yes” only if your unit exhibits a characteristic 75 percent of the time.
  • The deadline for 2009–10 applications is March 5, 2010.
  • Certification status will be determined on or before April 1, 2010.
